Diesel Particulate Filter
A Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is a filter designed to capture and store soot to keep the emissions to a minimum and then a process called regeneration will occur to burn off the excess soot in the filter and reduce the harmful emissions.
This process is usually done when the exhaust is at a high temperature on motorways, it injects extra fuel into the engine to raise the exhaust temperature and trigger the regeneration process.
